My Weekend
Well.... I remember wanting to blog about several things in the last few days, but I forgot what they all were. The reason I did not blog about them is because I did not have Internet access.
No, I did not forget to pay my bill.
Friday afternoon a tree fell in my yard. As to whether or not it made a sound, yes.
Was I there? No.
How do I know it made a sound? Physics.
Anyway.... this tree decided that, on its way down... it would take out several power lines and some other trees too.
So, when I got home from work, the area immediately surrounding my home was pretty much ground central for Alabama Power. They had cut up the massive tree into slightly massive chunks and rolled them to the closest side of the road. They then worked to get the lines back up. Saturday we were able to get Comcast to come out to hook up cable, but afterward.... I did not have Internet. I just got Internet access back today. The cable guy called me at work....so I rushed home to meet him.
At least I have Internet now.
I realized, though, that I am fairly addicted to it again.
I was at a loss for what to do with myself.
Friday night I decided to head up to the theatre, but all I could think about was the Internet.
I was in no mood to watch a film, so I left.
Saturday... I attempted to watch some fuzzy television (fuzzy due to weak signal and channels missing). Oh, my lovely Comedy Central, how I longed for thee. I opted for watching several of my DVDs. It was a fun time.
However, Saturday also featured a large chunk of time cleaning up the carnage of my neighbor's yard. We pulled as much of the destroyed trees out as we could and brought them into our yard.
Trees are quite heavy.
On the bright side... I found a nice piece I think I may used to whittle a staff.
Staves are awesome.
Saturday night I was bored out of my mind. I just watched more DVDs and listened to Comedy Central.
Sunday... I finally installed Battlefield 1942 on my computer. I stayed home to wait on the cable guy (who, as you know, wound up not showing up until Monday). But... I found out that I CAN get BF1942 to run somewhat well on my computer at times. It requires a good reboot to function well, though. When I first started playing... It was having fits. It would go through about 45 seconds of sluggish, delayed framerates...then about 10 of fast framerates. That cycle continued.
Eventually I headed over to my uncle's house to help him with a computer issue I had never really seen before. I was having problems getting into Safe Mode to try to diagnose things. I attempted messaging and calling several people, but I got no reply.
Fortunately, that turned out to just be a moment of stupidity.
For some reason, instead of hitting F8 to bring up the boot menu for WinXP.... I kept hitting F9.
Don't know what I was thinking.
Still, though... that computer had some major issues.
By the time I was finally able to get it to boot into Windows.... it would randomly reboot after about 20 seconds or so.
Eventually I just ran an HP System Recovery on the thing, and it appeared to be working rather well after that... so hopefully there are no major issues. It started malfunctioning after installing Norton Internet Security....or rather.... after an update to Norton... or something. Not really sure on the details. My first thought was to uninstall Norton.... but that probably would have been a bad idea...plus... it wouldn't let me do that in Safe Mode.
Monday: I got Internet back....and I am blogging.
Life is grand.
Now I can work on those sites and stuff.
